Yan Kong

Born in China, Yan Kong grew up in Taiwan and Hong Kong. At 18, she came to the United States to attend college. Although her formal education centered on science, Kong decided to pursue art upon obtaining Permanent Residency in 1978. She studied drawing and painting at the Art Students League for three years.

Kong's painting is an investigation into the complexity of the pictorial space. In her recent work Kong searches for new relationships of forms and colors that juxtaposed and carefully considered sometimes, impulsive and haphazard other wise. Her production is a dance of visual energy and harmony incorporating elements of discovery, immediacy, impulse, and surprise.
