She covered the1964 Tokyo Olympics for Associated
Press. In 1967, she visited the People's Republic of China during
the Cultural Revolution and took photographs for Associated Press
that were published in newspapers worldwide.
Nishio began photographing Native Americans in 1970, initially at
the Sioux Reservations of the Dakotas, and later among the Pueblos
of New Mexico. Her work has appeared in numerous solo and group shows
around the world. |

Chie Nishio
Chie Nishio studied photojournalism at the Toko Sogo Photo
School, graduating in 1963. She became a freelance editorial
and documentary photographer and created photo essays on
a variety of subjects in Japan including coal mining, a fishing
village, the new settlement in Hokkaido, and social problems
in Tokyo.
