Molly Yimlei Yep

"Although my grandparents paid head taxes to enter Canada and my father was born in the French province of Quebec, I was born in China.  I came to Canada at a young age and readily absorbed both the eastern and western cultures.  Realizing that I had opportunities here that my parents did not have, I studied architecture at McGill University in Montreal.  Later, while living with my husband in England, I completed a comprehensive ceramics program at an arts college.  Changing from architecture to ceramic sculpture allowed me to continue to work in three dimensions, but at a smaller, more manageable scale.  I exhibited my ceramics both in England and Canada and now have my studio with a gas kiln in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario.   Some of my works are based on the headless female figure which is more fully explained in my website:  www.riverstonestudio.ca.  Recently, I am working on a series of ceramic heads -- three dimensional portraits -- of mature Asian Canadians.   I also teach an adult clay course and tai chi to seniors in the community."
