Joo Hyun Kang

Born in Seoul, Korea, Joo Hyun Kang received her BFA from Seoul Women’s University. In 1992 she came to the United States to study and earned an MFA from Pratt Institute. Kang has had numerous solo and group exhibitions both in New York and in Korea. Kang’s work reflects her sense of the relationship between nature and human life. She articulates her inspiration and interest in nature through her own visual language, searching for forms that convey energy and dynamic interaction. Her work conveys the Eastern understanding of a humanity that can only exist in dialogue with nature, in both the tangible and intangible realms. She represents existence as a verb, a process of constantly evolving into new temporary states of order.
