Ella Yang
Ella Yang, born in Manhattan, New York, is a first-generation Korean-American.
As a teenager, Ella was interested in figure drawing and could always
be found experimenting with different media in the art classroom. While
she studied Architecture and Biology in college, she managed to enroll
in a studio art class every semester. After a very long hiatus from art
making, Ella’s dream to study art in Italy came true the summer
of 2001. There, she discovered the inspiring challenge of oil painting
landscapes “en plein air”. She brought back that experience
intact, and has applied it to the beauty she finds in her urban neighborhoods,
during weekend escapes from the city, and the occasional trip abroad.
Ella maintains a studio near the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn, New York.
She is an active participant in the annual Gowanus Artists Studio Tour,
an open studio event held every autumn.
