Akiko Bresler
Akiko Bresler was born in Japan and grew up in Tokyo. When she was 19
she came to the United States to attend the New School for Social Research
in New York. At the same time she studied with Marshall Glasier at the
Art Students League. She met Laurence Bresler at the League. After they
married they lived in Japan, Canada and Singapore for 12 years. During
these years most of Akiko’s artistic work was in ceramics. She produced
many works in the Japanese tradition. Akiko, Laurence and their daughter
Marie came back to the United States in 1987. She began oil painting and
studied at the League with Bob Cenedella and Andy Lukach. Her painting
has evolved into a personal means for expression using a combination of
colorful abstractions and figurative work.
