I N T R O D U C T I O N
By Ellen Hsiao

AAWAA (Asian American Women Artists Alliance) was founded by a group of women artists of Asian descent who wanted to reach out and form a community. We have since embraced women artists of all backgrounds.

2002 marks our Fifth Annual Open Membership Exhibition. We take pride in the twelve exhibitions our young organization has sponsored since 1998. Our success has been possible through the resourcefulness and dedication of our volunteer members, and private and public funding.

We are presenting our first online catalog for the AAWAA Fifth Annual Group Exhibition. In the past, we printed color catalogs. This year we decided to cut costs and reach a wider audience via the Internet. We hope you like this edition of the online catalog, generously created by member Candace Hsiao and friends. The online catalog is available at www.aawaa.org, our official website created by member Karin Soika. We welcome your comments and suggestions.

In years to come, we hope to continue to provide opportunities to emerging and established women artists and to serve as a forum for new ideas and issues important to Asian women. Above all, we value your support and welcome your input. Please contact us by email at or by phone at 718-788-6170.
