"In the Midst of Things" represents the rich diversity of AAWAA members in terms of culture as well as a broad range of artistic approaches in a variety of disciplines. The title suggests the delicate balance between life and art among women artists. Michelle Aki Becker, a young emerging artist exhibits paintings of bold colors and design. Seema Christie of Indian decent, paints tempera on paper that are inspired by spiritual enlightment. Paula DeLuccia's sculptures use Mahogany and Pine for juxtaposing and balancing. Yan Kong's Wine and Songs are painted wine bottles with Chinese Fortune Cookie Fortune written on them and show a diversification from her abstract paintings with hints of her Chinese heritage yet modern in expression. Sonomi Kobayashi's acrylic on canvas is minimal yet engaging. Helen Lan-Fen Lin's traditional paper cut collage brings in the New Year with Monkey images. Nancy Soyer's six figurative paintings of her Arabic neighborhood children are contrasting and expressive in colors. Two abstract paintings by Yi Jun Sun are commanding and beautiful. Yeachin Tsai's oil painting on paper is colorful and mysterious; Ella Yang's Brooklyn Landscapes breath with air and delights. Joan Gibson's watercolors are delicate rendition of Italian seacoasts.
