Your Support

AAWAA is a 501C(3) not-for-profit organization in the arts operated solely by volunteer artists. Support our program by making a donation to AAWAA, a 501C(3) not-for-profit organization. Your donation helps us promote art work by Asian women; reflect and document our practice; bring forth exciting programs; and engage our communities.

  • One of AAWAA's primary missions is to promote cultural and artistic exchange among fellow artists and engage an audience for the same purpose.  We have created exhibition opportunities over the past nine years and our steering committee has found new ways to engage artists and our audience -the Home Room Project  - a presentation concept which aims to promote educational outreach to the public by artists and their work.

  • 2006 Home Room Exhibition Program: Two exhibitions at AAWAA Galleries, 5 Shadow Puppet Workshops for Brooklyn elementary public school students and two movies series (summer and Fall) for the local neighborhood.

  • 2007 Home Room Exhibition Program : Two exhibitions at AAWAA Galleries, 10 Shadow Puppet Workshops for Brooklyn elementary public school students and one movies series for the local neighborhood.

  • 2008 Home Room Exhbition Program  is a cultural exchange program with China. AAWAA is currrently working and coordinating with various venues in Brooklyn and Manhattan to bring a 2006 exhibit - Chinese Peasant Art - from Beijing National Museum to Brooklyn. 70% of the artwork of Chinese Peasant Art were done by women. AAWAA  will work with Chinese Peasant Art Association and Chinese Merchant Association to bring the artwork to NYC to be exhibited at AAWAA gallery and at various venues in Brooklyn and Manhattan. At the moment the committed venues to co host the exhibit are  Donnell Public Library and three Banks in Manhattan China town. Two women artists from China will come to New York City for gallery talks and various craft  workshops, to be held at AAWAA Gallery for Brooklyn students, Brooklyn public library branches and venues in Manhattan ( to be announced). A catalog will be printed by the Chinese Peasant Associationn. Art work and catalogs will be available for sale and the proceed will go to support an Education Fund for girls in poor rural area in China.
The 2008 exhibition program will inspire artists and the general public in New York City to relate and recognize a genre of artists and artwork which may never come to terms as main stream. However, the peasant artworks are glorius and exhilarating - like a breath of fresh air that all city dwellers can appreciate.

AAWAA's History

At it's inception in 1998 the Asian American Women Artists Alliance was a core group of Asian American women looking for ways to provide a venue for their work and support for each other. Since then AAWAA has been working on making a name for itself by showcasing a diverse group of women artists. The group has expanded to include women from all ethnic backgrounds. As such members are provided with encouragement and direction within this cohesive unit while continuing to seek support (in terms financial aid) as well as searching for spaces to display work.

AAWAA is a young and evolving organization. We need financial support, volunteer's time, contributions in ideas and initiatives. Most of all this organization is not some remote bureaucracy. We are a group of women artists trying to help each other and accomplish something together. Each one of you can make a difference.
