Mission

Asian American Women Artists Alliance was formed to create an intergenerational, pan-Asian organization on behalf of emerging and established Asian American women in the arts. The founding members recognized that the work of these artists reflects and interprets an important range of American experiences. AAWAA provides opportunities to increase exposure and to educate the general public about this community's unique contributions to the arts in New York City.

Our mission is:

  • To cultivate the appreciation and understanding of the works of art of different cultures;
  • To enable emerging women artists of Asian descent succeed in creating art and presenting their works to the diverse communities within New York City;
  • To support experimental artistic expression, new media and cultural specific artwork through exhibitions and performances;
  • To promote interest and appreciation of the Arts within the local community;
  • To provide educational workshops for youth in the community;
  • To furnish a central place where women artists may seek support and information for professional growth;
  • To foster cooperative activities among artists; and
  • To facilitate multicultural exchange and contact among artists as well as artist groups.
